Hi, I’m Scott — an American who somehow ended up living on the southwest coast of Scotland, where the sheep outnumber the people and the weather has more moods than I do before coffee.
I started Scott in Scotland to share the strange, funny, and surprisingly heart-warming parts of life as an expat here — from trying to understand Scottish accents and grocery-store terminology, to figuring out how to drive on roads the width of a paperclip.
I’m not here to tell you how to “do” Scotland — just how I’m surviving (and occasionally thriving) in it. Whether it’s a post about immortal eggs at Tesco, mysterious local phrases, or the joys of learning that a “biscuit” is not a breakfast item, this blog is a little mix of travel diary, cultural translation, and running commentary on everyday Scottish life.
When I’m not confusing marmalade with jam, you’ll usually find me exploring small villages, taking too many photos of castles, or walking my dogs along the Solway Coast — trying to keep them out of the sea and the sheep field (with mixed results).
